Eagle Ridge Elementary School and the school’s Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) are the recipients of grants from Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), which is the world’s leading non-governmental organization engaged in food allergy advocacy and the largest private funder of food allergy research.
“Our Eagle Ridge team was already extremely grateful when we learned our school would be a recipient of a grant from FARE. Learning we had been awarded a second grant was an unbelievable surprise. These grants are the direct result of the hard work of Nurse Birk and our amazing Eagle Ridge PTSA. Eagle Ridge now has enough funds to educate students, staff, and families on food allergies. We are also excited by the opportunity to provide reusable water bottles to every student and staff member. The ability to refill these water bottles will now be easier with the addition of water filling stations purchased by our district and the Eagle Ridge PTSA,” said Katrina Dieck, principal at Eagle Ridge Elementary School.
Eagle Ridge’s school nurse Marilizabeth Birk, RN, was awarded one grant to increase the education and awareness of staff, students, and families.
Eagle Ridge’s PTSA was awarded the second grant and will provide water bottles for all students in order to decrease any type of cross-contamination and ultimately increase the health and hydration during this pandemic.
As part of the grant, additional books, materials, and resources will be provided to families and staff and will continue through this and future school years. The ultimate goal is to decrease risks and encourage all to participate in increasing awareness. Moving forward into the 2021-22 school year, annual classroom education for all students will be provided.
FARE awarded $14,000 in funding to 20 different schools, school districts, and Parent-Teacher Associations across the country as part of its inaugural Collaborator Community Impact Awards: Back to School program.
