Buchholz gets another daytime start for D-backs

Clay Buchholz will make his second start of the year for the D-backs on Saturday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. MST against Daniel Mengden of the A's as the two teams continue their series at Oakland Coliseum. The right-hander was signed to a Minor League deal earlier this month after exercising an opt out in his deal with the Royals. In his first start for the D-backs last Sunday, he allowed one run on two hits over five innings. He is taking the place of the injured Robbie Ray in the Arizona rotation.

Daniel Descalso hit a two-out single to break a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning. It provided the D-backs with a positive ending to a day where they learned starting center fielder A.J. Pollock would miss four to eight weeks with a fracture in his left thumb. The D-backs also received a great outing from Zack Greinke, who threw six innings of one-run baseball. Greinke struck out five batters, walked one and finished with 104 pitches.

The D-backs will promote right-hander Troy Scribner from Triple-A Reno to start Saturday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. MST against the Nationals in place of the injured Robbie Ray. Scribner was claimed by the D-backs off waivers from the Angels in early April. With Reno, he was 2-1 with a 5.68 ERA in five starts and he appeared in 10 games (four starts) for the Angels last year where he had a 4.18 ERA. He'll oppose the Nationals' Stephen Strasburg.

It was a bumpy road, but the D-backs beat the Dodgers again on Tuesday night, this time by an 8-5 score in 12 innings as A.J. Pollock, Chris Owings, John Ryan Murphy and Daniel Descalso all hit home runs. Descalso hit the go-ahead three-run blast in the 12th inning, his fourth of the year, off Dodgers reliever Yimi Garcia. The Dodgers were able to force extra innings when Enrique Hernandez hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth off Arizona closer Brad Boxberger to tie the score at 5. It was Boxberger's first blown save in 12 chances.
